A Port harcourt magistrate court has granted bail of N30 million to 4 persons charged with child trafficking and child stealing. The four suspects were paraded last week by the Rivers State police command. Justice Amaka Amanze granted the bail submission by the counsel to the accused person. The judge said the guarantor must be a first class chief and must have landed property within port Harcourt metropolis.
Speaking with newsmen, the chairperson of The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Port Harcourt chapter, Mrs Anthonia Osademe commended the judgement. she said: “since they are in court today and they have been arraigned, we will ensure that justice is done in this case. We will follow up the matter to conclusion and see how justice will be done and also see that the appropriate thing is done for those pregnant women and the children by the appropriate authority”.
She said the 16 pregnant women were discovered at a certain cornerstone maternity home in Port Harcourt and the owner was arrested.
